Today, September 12, 2020 Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is marking 25 years on the throne. Celebrations to mark the King’s silver jubilee were held at Karuzika Palace on Kabarole Hill in the tourism city of Fort Portal. The event was scientific and at-least 200 people attended the function after numbers were limited because of restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid -19.
King Oyo ascended to the throne at the age of 3 years on September 12, 1995 following the death of his father Omukama Patrick Olimi Kaboyo VII in August 1995, at the age of 49. King Oyo entered the world’s Guiness book of Records as the youngest king on the throne. Being a minor, Oyo was placed under the guardianship of several people namely; Queen Mother Best Kemigisha, President Yoweri Museveni, his aunt Elizabeth Bagaya and Kabaka Mutebi of Buganda.
In 2010, King Oyo clocked 18 years and finally came of age taking full control of the kingdom. Many Batooro today took to social media to celebrate this milestone with their King.
