The Kawempe North incumbent Member of Parliament Hon. Latif Ssebaggala has confirmed that he will be defending his parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections.
Latif who has been representing Kawempe North in Parliament since 2001 and had earlier on declared that he wouldn’t be running for the same post in the 2021 elections, has this afternoon through a press conference made a U-turn, and declared he is coming back for his seat in 2021 on an independent ticket.
Two weeks back, Latif who had initially declared his intentions for vying for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat quit the race just a few days after being announced the National Unity Platform flag bearer. Ssebagala has been unclear about which exact position he wanted to contest for and making u-turns has been a recurring problem with him.
In his defence , Latif has said after massive consultations from the People of KAWEMPE North together with advise from his elders, he has decided to come back and reclaim his position. It should be remembered that during the burial of Latif’s elder brother and former Kampala Mayor Al hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala, an elder family member commanded Latif to come and run for his MP seat.
Latif is now set to compete with Muhammad Segirinya, who NUP gave their party ticket. The big question is will Sebaggala beat Segirinya in the race and where does his loyalty in the NUP party stay?
