CAF the football governing body in Africa has cancelled the CAF Confederation Cup game between AS Kigali and KCCA FC because they did not have the recommended number of players to have for a game to take place. This happened because a number of players in Charles Lukwago, Denis Iguma, Keziron Kizito, Brian Aheebwa, Stefano Mazengo, Samson Kigozi, Hassan Matovu, Musana as well as head coach Mike Mutebi tested positive of COVID-19 hence not travelling to Kigali.
KCCA FC ‘s game was supposed to take place on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in Kigali Rwanda but only 14 players made the trip meaning the minimum of 4 substitutes couldn’t be raised and thus leading CAF to call off the game. The CAF organizing committee which is in line with the FIFA laws of the game came out to affirm that each match must be played if the team has atleast eleven players including goal keeper and four substitutes. If not possible the team will be considered to have lost the the match 2-0.
In such cases the organizing committee will be consulted for a final decision concerning the game but that aside, we await the second leg in Kampala on the 6th January 2021 at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
