THE VENOMS SURVIVE A SCARE AS KYETUME COMEBACK FROM A DRAWING STREAK IN MATCHDAY 4.

A total of 21 goals were scored on Match Day 4 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League while URA FC was the only club with an away win with Steven Mukwala the scorer of both those goals. We started off at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende where we witnessed an entertaining game in the second half after a boring first half that saw both clubs respecting each other to the maximum though we saw a an early lead by Brian Mayanja of Kitara FC ruled out. And the venoms too had three chances wasted by Muhammad Shaban, Najib Yiga and Galiwango Disan.

At the beginning of the second half, Coach Fred Kajooba made his first substitution by bringing on fresh legs in Bobosi Byaruhaga for injured Sirage Ssentumu. During that period, the visitors took the lead through Peter Lomoro who put the ball past Fabien Mutombora the venoms goal keeper after an assist from Brian Mayanja. This left the Vipers’ coach with no option but to through in bodies forward leading him into three substitutes, taking out Dissan Galiwango Najib Yiga and Jamil Kaliisa to bring on Denis Mwemezi, Daniel Sserukuma and Paul Mucureezi and later brought also Richard Basangwa for his debut in the 72nd minute before their equalizer.

The Vipers’ goals were scored by Paul Mucureezi through a header and Dan Sserunkuma ‘s low ball into the bottom corner to complete the comeback after Shaban’s intial effort. More chances continued to come the Venoms’ way like in the 88th minute where Sserunkuma’s hard shot went flying straight to the cross bar. Last year’s champions now lie 7th on the log with 4 points in two games after their late start in the League due to the CAF Champions League games and Kitara FC are still second from the bottom.

In the other game, we saw Livingstone Mbabazi’s Kyetume get their first win of the season after a run of three draws. Kyetume at the beginning of the campaign were highly rated by many to be among the tittle contenders when they got Mbabazi as coach, big names like Nicholas Kasozi and Mustapha Mujuzi who have vast experience in the league but the results have not been responding positively. Like their previous game where they clinched a point, once again Mustapha Mujuzi was the savior of the day through the spot that was awarded by referee Deogratious Opio after a secong half foul by Steven Kabuye . This time they kept the clean sheet and got the three points against a UPDF side that was on a perfect run after earning themselves maximum points in their last three games before today’s loss against them. Kyetume FC who are known as the slaughters now lie 6th on the log while UPDF who faced their first loss of the season remain 3rd on the log.

Kyetume celebrate their only goal of the game.

Elsewhere at Kakyeka in Mbarara, The Ankole lions were taking on The Red Eagles in a game that ended in a one all draw after Gofrey Lwesibawa took the lead in the 23rd minute free kick goal that went easily past Mbarara City goal keeper Muhammad Ssekabba. The Ivorian Soulyeman Bamba, the Mbarara city defender was the man who revived their hope of getting something out of the game after striking the ball past Mathias Muwanga who was betweeen the Express posts.
