The Uganda U-17 boys team who recently qualified for the AFCON U-17 tournament that is due to take place in Morocco after heading to the Finals through that Oscar Mawa late goal against Djibouti , have made the Nation proud once again by winning 3-1 against Tanzania who seemed to be favorites of the tournament. Uganda Cubs being the defending champions took it up to themselves to fight and retain the trophy in Rwanda under their coach Hamuza Lutalo and assistant Brian Ssenyondo.
The game started off in a dull way with a bit fear of commitment from either side. But later as they grew into the game, the Serengeti boys hit the bar in the 39th minute through Ladaki Chisambi and Omar Mvungi’s efforts though luck was not on their side and they didn’t find the back of the net hence the game remaining goalless at half time. The Second half just like the first didn’t have lots of action packed moments till Bright Stars FC ’s academy player Ivan Irinimbabazi netted a header through the Rays Uganda skipper Vincent Mulema’s Free kick. That gave the Cubs a lead in the 62nd minute.
The SMASk school team lad who many in Kitende refer to as their Messi because of his dribbles and speed on the ball Travis Mutyaba, doubled the lead with ten minutes to play, Mulema Vincent gave the Tanzanians some hope through an own goal that made it 2-1 but still that little hope was squandered by the Cubs captain and KCCA SA skipper Ibrahim Juma after being awarded a stoppage time penalty.
At the end of the day, Oscar Mawa the KCCA SA lad has come out on top of the scorers chat with 6 goals, Travis Mutyaba the Vipers SC academy player with the MVP of the tournament , Tanzania as the silver medalists and the Red Foxes of Ethiopia as the Bronze Medalists after taking up the third place.
