After the Swear in ceremony of President Elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, SC Vipers and URA FC were set for a top-table clash to find out who stole the day.
In the match that took place at St Mary’s stadium Kitende, Moses Kajjoba, the head coach of SC Vipers made no changes to the squad that played against KCCA FC on Sunday. The clash ended 2:1 in the favor of The Venoms. Viper’s squad did not scare Tax Collectors however, who had the better history of the two sides. URA had won the first leg match by 2 goals to 1.
URA showed aggression in the first half of the game, the Tax Collectors’ forwards and midfielders keeping Vipers’ defense and its goal keeper Fabian Mutombola very busy.
33 minutes in, Cromwell Rwothomio tackled and beat Halid Luwalirwa, Vipers’ captain to the ball and scored to put URA in the lead. The goal sent Sam Simbwa, the URA head coach screaming on top of his voice in celebration.
At the beginning of the second half, Kajjoba made quick changes to his squad. Manzoki replaced Richard Basangwa while Ibrahim Orit came on for Milton Kalisa. The changes brought Vipers back in the game, who started attacking until the 88th minute when Yunus Ssentamu, the league’s top scorer equalized for The Venoms.
The one all draw left URA FC on top of the table with 51 points in 23 matches, Vipers trailing in second position with 50 points, one point below URA.
The stalemate also gives Express FC a chance to bridge the point-gap difference it had between the two teams.
